There are many other games you should know about. Our team members abroad came together to create a unique list of drinking games from around the world. Check it out! Here is our top 10 of the most original drinking games from around the globe.
1. Card Counting
- Origin: China
- Game duration: Less than an hour
- Requires: Playing cards
This original drinking game comes straight from the middle empire, China. If by any chance you are into card counting, this game is made for you.
Rules
In this game, there are players and a dealer gathered around a table. The dealer counts from 1 to 13 as the cards are dealt on the table, face up, one at a time. If the number on the upturned card matches the number announced by the dealer, every other player must hit the deck simultaneously with their hand.
The last player to slap the deck must drink a few fingers of its beverage, and if everyone else agrees - must also take a dare from the rest of the players.
At the end of each hand, the dealer recovers all the card on the table and places them under the deck.
The Jack counts as 11, the Queen as 12 and the King as 13.
2. Beer Hockey
- Origin: North America
- Game duration: Less than an hour
- Requirements: A coin (like a quarter, or 5euro cents or 2p)
Everyone gathers around a table, placing a single full bottle or can in front of them making sure people are equally spaced out. Just like Hockey, The objective is to score goals while keep your goal. The puck is a spinning coin (usually a quarter, or 5 euro cents or 2 pence)
Rules
First memorise the players' name, the player who kicks off the first round of the game (The shooter), first spins the quarter and calls out another player's name. All defenders must quickly guard their beers using their pinky and index fingers (see picture, but not their knuckles). The shooter then attempts to flick the quarter and hit a defender's beer.
If the shooter hits the target, everyone takes their beer off the table and the shooter is then allowed to spin the quarter, the unlucky defender who got its beer hit must drink as long as the coin spins, to make it even worse, other players can attempt to keep the coin spinning, so the unlucky defender will be drinking even more.
If the Shooter misses the target, or bounced off the defenders' fingers, it is still in play, as long as it remains on the table and spinning, in that case other players can try to flick it and hit another player's target. In the event the coin stops spinning, after the first hit, then the defender become the shooter and start again. If multiple targets were hit, then the defender who got hit first becomes the shooter.
Instant Revenge
If a defender is about to finish its drink and the coin is still spinning, they can activate the Instant Revenge process and slam its empty can on the spinning coin. Then the unlucky defender can spin the coin on the table and force the shooter to drink until the coins falls flat on the table.
As soon as their drink is finished the player can slam it down on the table and attempt an "Instant Revenge" shot at anyone's beer. If the drinking player does not "pull the ropes," then his or her redemption shot is illegal and considered null and void.
On Fire mode
If one player hits more than one can in a single strike, The ‘On Fire' mode is activated. When a player is on fire, it gives that player the right to hit the coin whenever they see fit, especially when the player's name is not called. This continues until the said player misses a shot.
Special rules:
After a strike, if the coin is still spinning, any player may attempt to gently stop it spinning, using one finger while making sure it stands up on its edge. If successful the unlucky defender must finish its drink, if the attempt fails, the initiator must finish its drink.
Extra non-mandatory rules just for fun:
1 - The shooter only has 3 tries to get the coin spinning, if you fail, your beer ends up in the penalty box (centre of the table) for one round and becomes vulnerable. Get ready to drink if this happens.
2 - Zamboni - The Table Suck, this rule must be agreed upon before the start of the game. If a beer is knocked over from a shot, the beer holder must suck the beer off the table. If you are drinking fine quality beer, then you may want this rule in effect.
3 - High Sticking - Hitting an opponent in the Facial Area with the coin on your shot - Shooter must drink their drink.
3. Land mines
- Origin: North America
- Game duration: Less than an hour
- Requirements: A coin (like a quarter, or 5euro cents or 2p)
Rules
The game starts with the first player taking the coin and spinning it on the table. While the quarter spins, the player drink one or two fingers of beer, then the player must try to pick up the still spinning coin using the same hand that picked the beer.
If the spinner succeeds, the next player to the left is on. If the spinner fails, he/she must drink again until successful. If a player is unsuccessful 3 times in a row during a round, they must take a penalty, like drink a shot or take a dare card.
What are the Land Mines?
When players begin finishing their beers, those empty beer cans become "landmines". A player can now take their "land mines" and smash any other players' quarter during its spin, causing that player to drink and spin again.
Empty beer cans that are used as "land mines" stay in play where they were deployed until the end of the game, making them an obstacle to avoid from then on out. Play until you drop.
4. Napkin, Beer, Cigarette
- Origin: South Korea
- Game duration: Less than 10 min
- Requires: A cigarette, a light coin and a piece of napkin
Rules
A pretty simple game coming straight from Korea and for smokers mainly. Just place a paper napkin or even toilet paper if you are desperate. If the piece of paper is too bendy, you can try to wet the part overlapping the rim of the glass underneath. Carefully place a light coin in the centre. Once the game is set up, each player take turns using their cigarette to burn little holes in the napkin.
From here, there are two ways to play. Either the objective is to make the coin fall in which case the winner takes the beer, or if the objective is to make sure it does not fall through, then the loser must drink a shot or a pre-mixed concoction.
Either way, it is a quick game you can play at home or at the terrace of a bar while drinking moderately.
